AC Milan’s Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic will miss this summer’s UEFA EURO 2020 for a knee injury, the country’s football body said on Saturday.
The Swedish Football Association said on Twitter that 39-year-old Ibrahimovic told Swedish national team manager Janne Andersson that his injury would prevent him from playing in the EURO 2020 as the tournament will start on June 11.
Ibrahimovic previously left the national team after the EURO 2016 but returned to play for his nation in March.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star scored 62 goals in 118 matches for Sweden since his international debut in 2001.
Ibrahimovic will remain with the Italian Serie A side AC Milan for another season, extending his deal with the Rossoneri in April.
This season Ibrahimovic scored 17 goals in 27 appearances for his club.
Sweden will play against Spain, Slovakia, and Poland in the EURO 2020 Group E.
