Former nominated Member of Parliament Raphael Nakachinda says he is disappointed by leaders and members of the opposition political parties in Zambia that snubbed the Africa Freedom day celebrations.
He said Africa Freedom day is a national event that must be embraced by all well-meaning Zambians regardless of their political affiliation.
“This event is not only celebrated in Zambia but across the continent. It is an opportunity for us to reflect on how far we have come in our journey and quest for the development of our continent and respective nations,’’ Mr Nakachinda said.
He says anyone who is patriotic, a nationalist and Pan Africanist would find such days important.
“We are one in diversity. Those who have not participated today are yet to develop in appreciating the significance of national days and the need for us to collectively celebrate our development as a people,’’ he said.
Mr Nakachinda says the role of the opposition is to provide checks and balances, thus, attending national events does not take away their role,’’ he said.
