The Lusaka Magistrate Court has ordered former National Democratic Congress, NDC Leader Chishimba Kambwili to give his defense with or without his lawyers in a matter he is facing 39 counts of forgery and being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime amounting to over K 5 million.
Magistrate Mwaka Mikalile says an adjournment cannot be granted because a warning was given to Dr. Kambwili in the last session that she would not grant him another adjournment in the next session.
Initially, Dr. Kambwili had asked for an adjournment to sort out his problems lawyers.
In this matter, Dr. Kambwili is jointly charged with son Mwamba,Mwamona Engineering Technical Services, Brano Musonda, a senior inspector at Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) and Mulenga Kapilima who is a revenue officer at ZRA.
He is currently organizing documents to defend himself after being told to proceed with his defense.
If found guilty and convicted, the accused people risk serving a maximum jail term of five years on counts of being in possession of properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime and pecuniary advantage
