Farmers in Mporokoso District have welcomed the upward adjustment in the maize buying price by the Food Reserve Agency – FRA.
Speaking to ZANIS in Mporokoso today, the farmers thanked President Edgar Lungu and his government for the move, saying it is an indication of the commitment to boost agriculture as a key economic driver.
One of the farmers, Astrida Kambobe said the development will enable her to meet her family’s needs.
Ms. Kambobe added that farmers will be able to send their children to school on time and prepare for the next farming season.
And, Peter Sombe praised government through the FRA for increasing the maize buying price from 1-hundred- and 10-kwacha last year to 1-hundred and 50 for the 2021 crop marketing season.
Another farmer, Augustine Kabwe said the move will encourage small scale farmers to work hard and take farming as a business.
On Monday this week, the FRA announced that it will buy white maize at the price of one hundred and 50 Kwacha per fifty-kilogram bag.
The agency will buy a 50-kilogram bag of soya beans at 5 hundred Kwacha while paddy rice will be bought at 2 hundred Kwacha per 40-kilogram.
