Senior chief Mukuni Ng’ombe of the lenje people of central province has called on government to sternly fight the indiscriminate cutting down of trees and environmental injustices which are leading to climate change.

Speaking through a representative during the celebration of his ascendancy to the position of senior Chief, Chief Mukuni Ng’ombe said he is delighted with the creation of a new ministry of Green Economy and environment specifically targeted to protect the environment.

He also called on Members of parliament to call for the implementation of stiffer punishment on those found harming the environment.

Meanwhile central province Minister Credo Nanjuwa said government understands the important role traditional leaders play in the governance of the country.

And Information and Media Minister of Chushi Kasanda called on the residents to continue supporting and working together with government.

Ms Kasanda said government is willing to work with everyone without looking at tribe or political affiliation to bring development to central province.
