Hundreds of Miners from Mopani Copper Mines today protested over the delayed payment of their terminal benefits and accrued loan repayments.

The miners gathered at Katilungu House in Kitwe to press the Mine Workers Union of Zambia-MUZ to speed up the process.

The miners demanded to be addressed by their union leaders.

And MUZ President JOSEPH CHEWE assured the miners that they will be paid within 24 hours.

Mr. CHEWE said his union has engaged Mopani Copper Mines management who have given the assurance that the miners will be paid their dues.

And Kitwe District Commissioner LAWRENCE MWANZA said Mines Minister PAUL KABUSWE has assured him that the payments will be done as soon as possible.

In August, this year, Mopani promised to settle the accrued terminal benefits in three installments but, only one payment has been made so far.
