Hundreds of Solwezi residents in North Western Province this morning protested at ZESCO regional office for non-connection of electricity despite paying the connection fee.
The Residents say they will camp outside the ZESCO regional office until their houses are connected to electricity.
THOMAS KALAPI, a Resident from Wisdom Compound, says he paid for connection of electricity in 2019 but has not been connected.
And ALICE MASHINGA, a resident of Kazomba, says her house has not been connected to electricity despite having made payments in 2017.
She accused ZESCO of being biased in their electricity connection process.
Meanwhile, ZESCO Public Relations Manager HAZEL ZULU has called for calm among residents of Solwezi as the company clears the connection backlog.
Ms. ZULU says the connection fee that customers are paying for is subsidized by ZESCO which has led to the delay in electricity connection as the company is mobilising resources for the exercise.
Speaking in a telephone interview, Ms. ZULU assured the public that have paid the connection fee that their houses will be electrified soon.
