The Engineering Institution of Zambia-EIZ has set up an ethics and integrity committee which will be disciplining erring engineers who will be found wanting if they take part in shoddy construction works countrywide.

EIZ Northern Region Chairperson JOHN SIAME has told ZNBC News that following several complaints of shoddy works and unprofessional conduct, the engineering body now wants to punish engineers with unprofessional conduct.

Professor SIAME says members of the Ethics and Integrity Committee will be elected in Lusaka on Saturday and their task will be to ensure all engineers do their jobs professionally across the country.

Meanwhile, Professor SIAME said the EIZ will offer consultancy services to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to ensure all Councils countrywide manage the newly increased Constituency Development Funds.

Professor SIAME said the EIZ will ensure the designs for the developmental projects and the costing are within the acceptable threshold so that quality projects are executed in Constituencies.

He said this in an interview in Kitwe on the sidelines of the EIZ Membership Renewal Exercise.
