The High Court has nullified the election of three Patriotic Front Members of Parliament.
The three are MUTOTWE KAFWAYA of Lunte, LUKA SIMUMBA of Nakonde and ALLEN BANDA who stood in Chimwemwe constituency in Kitwe.
This brings the number of nullified elections to FIVE.
In the Nakonde election nullification, the Chinsali High Court cited widespread electoral violence and malpractices.
AND in Kasama, Lusaka based High Court Judge WILFRED MUMA who read the ruling before a packed courtroom said there were serious issues of bribery, and corruption during the campaigns in Lunte.
Ndola High Court Judge BUBILE SHONGA nullified the Chimwemwe election this afternoon saying the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- did not provide GEN12 forms to the UPND Candidate in 36 polling stations across the constituency
MEANWHILE, the court in Chinsali dismissed the petition against the election of Isoka Member of Parliament, MARJORY NAKAPONDA of the UPND.
In Chipata, the High Court dismissed the electoral petition against Sinda PF Member of Parliament MASAUSO TEMBO by losing UPND candidate LEVY NGOMA.
Lusaka Judge SUSAN WANJELANI who was hearing the matter in Chipata declared Mr TEMBO as duly elected.
AND the High Court in Kasama has upheld the election of BRIAN MUNDUBILE as Mporokoso Member of Parliament.
Lusaka based High Court Judge CHARLES ZULU who was sitting in Kasama made the ruling in Kasama today.
MEANWHILE, Kabushi Member of Parliament BOWMAN LUSAMBO has filed a notice of appeal in the Constitutional Court against the Ndola High Court’s decision to nullify his election.
In the memorandum of appeal among other reasons, Mr. LUSAMBO through his lawyers MAKEBI ZULU Advocates argue that the trial court erred in law and in fact when he held that the reported violence in 4 out of 8 wards amounted to widespread violence.
