The Zambia Under 17 women’s football team has beaten Botswana 3-1 in their opening 2021 COSAFA Campaign.
The Junior Copper Queens pulled a comeback against Botswana to mark a perfect start to their campaign at the ongoing region five youth games in Maseru Lesotho.
SERATI MODISENYANE put Botswana in the lead 29 minutes into the game but Zambia levelled matters through LUCY KAJIYA in the 49th minute to make it 1-1.
The Junior Copper Queens took charge of the score line in the second half as JESSY ZULU’s 83rd minute goal put the team in a two one lead.
And having put her name on the score sheet earlier, KAJIYA went on to bag a brace in the afternoon encounter as she scored the third for Zambia in the 90th minute, making it three goals to one for Zambia.
And Under 17 COACH KALUBA KANGWA said the win is a good motivation for the players heading into the next encounter.
KANGWA said the players missed numerous chances due to jetlag and that they will give a stellar performance and convert chances into goals in the games ahead.
And Botswana Coach OAITSE MOETI attributed his team’s loss to failure to execute their plan.
MEANWHILE, JESSY ZULU who was voted player of the match gave credit to the team for putting up a good show adding that the team was determined to win even before the first whistle.
Zambia will face Namibia in their next game to be played on Saturday at 10:00 hours.
