200m winners Jackson, Lyles triumph with historic times at Oregon22

Noah Lyles of the US and Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson both won gold medals for the 200-meter dash on Friday, marking new historic times at the 2022 World Athletics Championships (Oregon22).

In the 200 meter men’s race, US athletes grabbed all three medals, with Lyles finishing in 19.31 seconds — the third best time in history behind Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake. His compatriots, Kenneth Bednarek and Erriyon Knighton, were awarded silver and bronze with 19.77 and 19.8 seconds, respectively.

In the women’s 200 meters, Jackson won the gold with a championship record time of 21.45 seconds, which also marked the all-time second-best behind Florence Griffith-Joyner’s 21.34-second record. Her compatriot Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce was awarded the silver medal with 21.81 seconds, while British athlete Dina Asher-Smith bagged bronze with 22.02 seconds.

The Oregon22, which is the eighteenth edition of the World Athletics Championships, will continue in Eugene, Oregon, US until Sunday.
