Zanis-Government says it attaches great importance to the development and implementation of interventions aimed at improving the productivity and livelihoods of small-scale farmers across the country.
Minister of Agriculture REUBEN MTOLO says small scale farmers produce the majority of the country’s food supply and need to be assisted with modern techniques to improve their farming and household economies.
Mr. MTOLO says there is need for small scale farmers to start looking at and engaging in farming as a business.
The Minister said this in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Agriculture CHIZUMBA SHEPANDE at a Japanese International Cooperation Agency -JICA- Smallholder Horticulture Empowerment Promotion -SHEP- Workshop in Lusaka.
And JICA Zambia Acting Chief Representative KEITA IZUMI said his organization is committed to helping Zambia streamline the implementation of SHEP.
SHEP is now being practiced in over 50 countries worldwide by over 2-hundred thousand beneficiary farmers and 20-agriculture staff from Japan have since been sent to learn the concept.
